Test Double is seeking an exceptional Principal Consultant to spearhead our most complex client challenges while expanding our capabilities in high-demand domains like artificial intelligence, legacy modernization, DevOps infrastructure, and data engineering. As a Principal Consultant, you'll embed with client teams as both strategic advisor and hands-on technical leader, leaving every engagement better than you found it.

This isn’t a traditional consulting role. As a Principal Consultant, you’ll strengthen Test Double’s position in the market by shaping our technical practices, mentoring consultants, and creating content that showcases our expertise. You’ll partner with sales and marketing to help win meaningful work in domains like AI and legacy modernization. In client engagements, you’ll act as a strategic advisor—guiding technical direction, aligning delivery to business outcomes, and helping teams improve how they build software.

Your mission as a Principal Consultant

You’ll adapt your focus based on client and company needs, shifting between deep delivery work, strategic shaping, market presence, and internal enablement:

Partner with clients as a strategic advisor
Provide executive-level consulting to client leadership, helping them navigate digital transformation challenges and align technology initiatives with business objectives. You'll influence organizational change at scale while maintaining hands-on technical involvement.

Shape compelling solutions across multiple engagements
Identify patterns and create reusable tooling, processes, and training materials that amplify our impact across client relationships. Your innovations will enable Test Double to solve increasingly complex challenges while maintaining our high standards for quality and maintainability.

Support revenue growth through authentic relationships
Partner with our demand generation team on sales calls, proposal development, and relationship building that authentically represents our values. You'll help prospects understand how Test Double's approach differs from traditional consultancies while establishing trust in our capabilities.

Expand Test Double's strategic market presence
Establish our reputation in your domain of expertise through thoughtful content creation, conference presentations, and innovative tooling that demonstrates our capabilities. Your thought leadership will directly contribute to our ability to serve strategic markets and attract exceptional talent.

Drive strategic transformation on our most challenging engagements
Lead complex technical initiatives that other consultancies struggle to deliver. Whether decomposing years-old monoliths, architecting AI-powered solutions, or designing organizational structures that align software delivery with business objectives, you'll tackle problems that haven't been solved before.

Develop the next generation of empathetic collaborators
Mentor and guide our consultants through structured coaching that elevates their technical capabilities and client relationship skills. You'll contribute to growth systems that help teammates progress while embodying Test Double's culture of continuous improvement.


What you bring to Test Double

Demonstrated leadership in complex technical environments
You've successfully guided teams through challenging projects involving large-scale systems, emerging technologies, or organizational transformation. Your experience includes hands-on architecture, development, and team leadership across multiple technology stacks and business contexts.

Proven ability to grow technical talent through direct mentorship
You have concrete examples of developing engineers and consultants who credit you with significant career advancement. You excel at providing feedback, support, and coaching that elevates capabilities without creating conflict, and you thrive when others succeed.

Track record of client consulting and relationship building
You've earned client trust through innovative approaches to infrastructure, process improvement, or technical strategy. You understand how to navigate client organizations, influence stakeholders, and deliver solutions that align with business objectives rather than just technical requirements.

Industry contributions that demonstrate expertise
Whether through open source projects, conference presentations, blog posts, or other forms of thought leadership, you've shared knowledge that has influenced how others approach technical challenges. You're comfortable communicating complex topics to varied audiences.

Compensation:

Base salary: $190,000 - $240,000
